Once you start on a different scale tone, it is called a mode of that particular scale. eg. the C Major scale started from D and ending on D note will be the second mode and called the Dorian mode. From A to A in the G major Scale obviously will also be Dorian, since it starts on the 2nd degree of the major scale. We can to the same for the Melodic & Harmonic Minor Scales.
It is very useful to have these scale “under you fingers” to assist you in create interesting bass lines and solos.
